Guests who are not members cannot buy a ticket: what should we check?

Connect Web

Check event access, ticket eligibility, personal invitations and sale settings when an outside guest cannot buy.

When someone outside your organisation cannot buy, check both the event and the ticket. A public ticket does not override an access restriction on the event.

Start with what the guest sees

Ask for the event link, ticket type and exact error message. For a personal invitation, also identify the invited email address. Never request passwords or payment card details.

Open Connect → Events → select the event. Make sure it matches the link the guest received.

1. Can the guest access the event?

Check the event’s Visibility. Members only and Invite only may block a guest even when the ticket is open to everyone.

If anyone with a shared link should be able to buy, use an Unlisted event and a ticket without unintended eligibility restrictions. See the shared-link setup.

If only named people should buy, keep the intended restriction and check their personal invitations.

2. Can the guest buy this ticket?

Open Tickets and edit the relevant ticket type. Check eligibility, membership plans, community titles and any school-verification or audience requirements.

A guest ticket must not also require a membership the guest does not hold. Remove only restrictions that were not intended.

Also check Visible to all users and Hidden ticket. An unlisted event and a hidden ticket are separate settings. Sharing an event link does not make a ticket hidden from ordinary buyers available to everyone.

3. Is a personal invitation required?

Under Invitations, check the recipient email, ticket type, status and expiry. Sending the event link by text does not create a Happenings invitation. The recipient must use the account with the invited email and confirm the address if required.

Read the personal invitation guide.

4. Is the sale open?

Check that the event is published, the ticket type is active and sales are not paused. Review sale start, sale end, scheduled release, remaining quantity and per-order or per-user limits.

Test the correction

Use an ordinary account matching the guest’s situation. An administrator may have access the guest does not. For an open shared-link sale, first check the event and ticket selection in a private browser window.

If the issue remains, give support the event link, ticket type, exact error and time of the attempt. Avoid asking the guest to pay again until any existing order has been investigated.
