Public, unlisted or invite only? Choose access to your event

Connect Web

Understand event visibility, ticket eligibility, shared event links and personal invitations.

Want to send selected people a link so they can buy tickets? Choose Unlisted for the event and Open to everyone for the ordinary ticket. An Invite only event requires a personal invitation created in Happenings; sharing the event link is not enough.

Other requirements, such as a membership plan, community title, audience or school verification, may still restrict access. Remove only requirements that were not intended.

Unlisted: access through a shared link

An unlisted event is not listed in feeds or search. People with the direct event link can open it and buy available tickets if they meet the ticket’s eligibility requirements.

The link can be forwarded. Unlisted is therefore suitable when the link should provide access, but not when each recipient must be approved personally.

Invite only: personal access

Writing “you are invited” in a text or sending the event link does not create a Happenings invitation. Personal ticket invitations are created in Connect → Events → select the event → Invitations and tied to the recipient’s email address.

The event’s Invite only visibility and the ticket’s invitation requirement are separate settings. Changing one does not automatically change the other.

Why does a public ticket not always solve access?

The event’s access rules also apply to its tickets. A ticket can be public and open to everyone while the event still refuses the buyer because the event is restricted. Check both levels.

Test as an ordinary guest

An administrator may see more than a guest. Open the event link in a private browser window to test an open shared-link sale. Test membership and invitation requirements with an ordinary account matching the guest’s situation.
