Choose between coupons and voucher codes in Connect
Use personal coupons for employee benefits and shareable voucher codes for controlled self-service redemption.
Purpose
Choose the correct benefit mechanism before you create or distribute anything.
In everyday language, “voucher” can mean any employee benefit. In Connect, coupon and voucher code describe two different workflows.
Use a coupon distribution when
- the benefit should appear in each eligible person’s wallet;
- you want to send the benefit to active members, a department, a membership plan, or event attendees;
- usage should be traceable to an issued personal coupon;
- each recipient should receive a defined quantity.
This is normally the right choice for employee benefits.
Use a voucher code when
- you need a code or link that eligible people redeem themselves;
- the code may grant a ticket, membership, coupon, or bundle benefit;
- you can safely control who receives the code;
- maximum uses, maximum uses per person, and expiry rules provide enough control.
See Create and manage voucher codes for the full setup flow.
Important difference
A personal coupon is already issued to a recipient. A voucher code is shareable until it is redeemed and is not tied to one named person in advance.
Do not use a shared voucher code as a substitute for a confidential one-person allocation. Anyone who obtains a valid code may be able to redeem it within the configured limits.
Decision guide
Benefit for everyone in one department
Use a coupon product and send coupons to Community title holders.
Benefit for all active employees
Use a coupon product and send coupons to All active members.
Promotion distributed through a controlled campaign
Use a voucher code when self-service redemption is intentional and the use limits match the campaign.
One personal exception
Connect Web does not currently expose a Specific people option in the coupon distribution dialog. Contact Happenings support instead of widening the audience or sharing a code that should remain personal.
Before launch
Confirm:
- who should be eligible;
- whether identity must be known before redemption;
- whether sharing is acceptable;
- the quantity per person and total stock;
- start, expiry, and redemption rules;
- how usage will be reviewed afterward.
Troubleshooting
People are sharing a voucher code
Pause further distribution and review the code’s limits and expiry. If the benefit should be personal, replace the workflow with coupon distribution for future allocations.
The recipient audience is not available
Do not select a broader audience. Correct member or community-title data, or contact Happenings support for a one-person allocation.
